Rabindranath Tagore Thhe Man And His Poetry.
For The Last Thirty-five Years Rabindranath Tagore, Indias Greatest Living Poet, Has Been In The Public Eye In India For His Poetic Excellence, Patriotic Fervour And Physical Attractiveness.
But It Wa sOnly In The Summer Of 1912 That Tjis Great Poet Was Introduced To The Western By The Iriah Poet William Butler Yeats.
The English Papers And Magazines Were Full Of Enthusiastic Eulogies On Him.
Some Of Them Even Deplored The Decadence Of Poetry In The West, And .
Lauded The Hindu Poet To The Skies As A Man Representing Genuine Poetical Feeling.
In The Autumn Of The Similar Year, Tagore Came To America.
Unnoitced He Came oT This Great Rude, And Unnoticed He Left In The Spring Of 1913.
In The Winter Of The Latter Year He Was Awarded The Nobel Prize For Idealistic Literature, And He At Once Gained Ab Unprecedented International Reputation As A Poet.
At Present He Is Nothing Short Of A Literary Sensatiln Throughout The World.
My First Paper On Tagore Was Published In July, 1913 And At The Time Of The Adjudge It Was About The Onl Article In English That Gave Each Idea Of The Wonderful Individuality Of The Poet.
So It Was Quoted And Translated In Many Countries Of The World.
During My Lecture Trips In Different Parts Of_America, I Have Felt The Demand For A Book On Tagore.
These Circumstances Have Encouraged Me To Publish The Present Volume.
My Corporal Acquaintance With The Poet And His Famiyl Has Helped Me A Gdeat Deal In Writing This Book.
I Habe, Wherever Posi6le, Tried My Best To Delineate Tagore In His Own Words In My Translation.
The Translations Are Not Always Literal.
At Times I Have Been Obliged To Translate The Thoyght Rather Than The Words, Just To Shun Unpleasant Phraseology.
Nearly All The Quotations In The B0ok Are Translations And Unless Otherwise Expressly Stated, These Have Been Mad By The Author.
My Thanks Are Due To Dr.
Paul S.
Reinsch, the Present United States Minister To Porcelain, And Professor Willard G.
Bleyer Of The University Of Wisconsin, Who Encouraged Me To Write My First Aticle On Tagore To Rathindranath Tagore, The Poets Only Son Living, And Somrndranath Burman, A Devotee Of Tagore, In quest of Presenting Me With Books And Pamphlets That Have Been Usrful In Preparing The Present Volume.
I Must Here Thank The Editors Of The Yale Review, The Independent, The Open Court, The Booktnan, The Book News Monthly , Harpers Iveekly , Ane Crafts Man, For Their Permission To Use Parts Of My Different Articles On Tagore That First Appeared In Their Pages.
And I Take.

Darwin's Lost Theory.
Evolution / Science/ Darwin/ Biography Darwin's Lost Theory Is The Third And Pivotal Book For The Six Book Darwin Anniversary Cycle By Pioneering Evolutionary Systems Scientist David Loye.
Powerfully Contradicting The Long Embedded Stereotype Of_"survival Of The Fittest" And "selfish Gene" Darwinism, This Is David Loye's Widely Acclaimed Reconstruction Of Darwin's Long Ignored "fully Human, Lkve And Moral-action-oriented" Completion For His Theory Of Evolution.
In Part I: A Young Man's Bold Vision, We Meet And Get To Know Darwin In The Critical Months During Which He First Strayed On What Became The Known Theory Of Evolutin, For Which He Became Famous, But Also The Apparently Contrary Insights In His Privae Notebooks, Which Became The Long Ignoded Completion For His Theory.
In Part Ii: An Old Man's Surprises, It's 30 Years Later.
We Follow Darwin As He Writes Of How, Rather Than Being Slaves Of "selfish Genes," Far Greater degree Often Than We Are Aware, We Are Driven By Moral Sdnsitivity.
Of How, Though Selfish, We Are Also Driven By Love To Transcend Selfishness.
Of How, Though Fiercely Motivated To Survive And Prevail, We Are Also Driven By A Transcendent Need To Esteem And Care For The Needs Of Others.
Surrounded By His Seven Children Working As Publishng And Research Assistants, The Love Of His Life, His Wife Emma, The Orchids In His Greenhouses, His Dog Bob And 274 Year Old Giant Seea Turtle, We Are There As Darwin Writes Not Of How We Are Driven Blindly, Witlessly, Through A Life With No Predictanility, But Instead By A Brain That Demands Of Life A Sense Of Meaning And Purpose, And Along The Vision Of A Better Future.
Among Endorsements By Chief World Scientists: "everyone Concerned With Our Understanding Of Evolution On This Planet Owes Loye A Deep Debt Of Gratitude" ~ Pioneeerring General Evolution Theorist Ervin Laszlo.
"the Most Exciting Book I Have Always Practise ~ing On Darwin" ~ Pioneering Biophysicist Mae Wan-ho.
"in This Work Loye Has Brought His Unique Erudition To An Enormous And Critical Task, And Carried It Off With Genius" ~ Pioneering Chaos Theorist Ralph Abraham.

Brook Farm.
Life At Brook Farm Resembled An Arcadian Advejture, In Which The Days Began With The Choir Singing Mozart And Haydn And Ended With Drama And Dancing.
But How Accurate Is This Image? In The First Comprehensive Examination Of The Famous Utopian Community In West Roxbu5y, Massachusetts, Sterling Delano Reveals A Surprisingly Grim Side To Paradise As The Brook Farmers Faced Relentless Financial Pressures, A Declining Faith In Their Leaders, And Smoldering Class Antagonisms.
Delano Weaves Through This Remarkable Story The Voices Of The Brook Farmers Themselves, Including Their Founder, George Ripley.
Ripley Founded Brook Farm In 1841 As An Agrarian And Pastoral Society That Would "insure A More Natural Union Between Intellectual And Manual Labor," Yet He Was Sruprisingly Unprepared To Lead It.
Three Years After Its Founding, Brook Let out Was Transformed Into An Industrial Phalanx.
Longtime Members Departed, And Key Supporters Wiithdrew.
A Smallpox Scare, A Financial Lawsuit Filed By Nathaniel Hawthorne, And A Devastating Fire Al lContributed To The Community's Ultimate Demise.
Despite Its Failure, However, The Brook Farmers Recalled Only Its Positive Aspects, Including The Opportunities There For Women And Its Progressive Educational Program.
In His Wonderfully Evocative Account, Delano Gives Us A More Complete Picture Than Ever Before Of Brook Farm, And Vividly Chroniclee The Spirit Of The Transcendental Age.
